How much Algae Tamer do I need?
The amount of Algae Tamer you need to put into your stock tank
depends on two factors. One is the surface area of the tank. An
average stock tank has a surface area of about 10 square feet or 2 feet
wide by 5 feet long. The depth of the tank is not a factor. For each 10
feet of surface area, use one bag of Algae Tamer. If algae is already
established in the tank, either dump and scrub the tank clean OR use two
bags of Algae Tamer. BACK TO TOP
How long does Algae Tamer last?
A bag of Algae Tamer normally lasts two months. In tests, it has
lasted even longer. One tip to get the maximum life from a bag of Algae
Tamer is to top off your tank frequently. Tanks that are allowed to get
to very low levels may not get as good results with Algae Tamer.

How long does it take Algae Tamer to work?
Algae Tamer begins to work immediately when it is placed in the
tank. However, you may not notice its effect for a week to ten days. You
will then observe the algae turning from green to black as it dies. If
your tank had a lot of slime built up along the sides of the tank, the
dead algae may start coming off in sheets and do so for about a week.
Take a shovel or manure fork and fish the floating debris out of the
tank. The water will become clear and no new algae will grow in the
tank. BACK TO TOP
How do I know that Algae Tamer is safe?
Algae Tamer is completely organic and very safe. Many academic
studies have been done regarding the use of Algae Tamer’s key ingredient
for killing algae in water. All studies have proven it safe for all
types of livestock and fish. At Algae Tamer, we conducted three years of
studies at two horse farms. One is the farm of our veterinarian, who has
more than 50 horses including those who may be sick, very young or very
old. No ill effects ever occurred. BACK TO TOP
Can Algae Tamer be used in fish ponds?
Algae Tamer has been used with great success in ornamental fish
ponds. These customers report that they no longer use chemicals and that
there has been absolutely no effect on the fish and aquatic plants.
Calculate the square surface footage of the pond and use one bag for
each ten feet of surface area. If you come up with 25 feet, round up to
three bags. BACK TO TOP |
Helpful Tips & Hints
from our Customers:“If you have a clever horse or steer that
likes to fish the bag of Algae Tamer out of the tank, use a piece of
baling twine and tie Algae Tamer to a rock or brick so it stays at the
bottom of the tank.”
Note: We have also heard of adventurous dogs fishing for Algae Tamer!
“My tank was really scuzzy and I found that starting with two bags
at first did the trick. Now I just drop in a new bag when I see the tank
getting green around the sides.”
“I put in a fresh bag of Algae Tamer every time I deworm my
horses, since I worm every 60 days. That way I know when it’s time for a
